About Michael Yoder

Michael Yoder (b. 1978) studied painting at The Rhode Island School of Design, Brown University, and The Pennsylvania State University, where he also studied Art History and Critical Theory.  He has received several awards and grants, most notably an artist residency at The Chinati Foundation in Marfa, TX and an A.I.M. grant from The Bronx Museum of the Arts, both accompanied by shows of his work.  Yoder has developed courses at Yale (Painting, Digital Media, and Abstraction) and taught at RISD, Moore College of Art and Design, Adelphi University, and Massachusetts College of Art (Painting and Digital Media).  His work has been included in several catalogs and featured in publications such as The New York Times, New American Paintings, Art/Work (Simon & Schuster, 2009), The Boston Globe, and on the cover of Rhubarb Magazine.  In 2013 Yoder created a body of work including paintings, works on paper, and hand-made wallpaper which was featured in a two-person show at James Oliver Gallery in Philadelphia.  In August of 2014 he completed a five-year project at The Philadelphia Museum of Art digitizing objects from its collection for web-use.  In the Fall of 2016 Yoder held concurrent solo exhibitions at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. In July of 2022 his work was featured prominently in an enormous group show and cultural event at O’Flaherty’s Gallery in lower Manhattan, “The Patriot,” which was covered by The New York Times and other publications. Yoder moved to Durham, NC in 2024, where he currently lives and works.
